Joe Cutler

Joe Cutler is a National Geographic Explorer and ichthyologist who discovers and catalogues freshwater fish biodiversity in Central and West Africa. Joe is an experienced field biologist and has lead ten fish sampling expeditions over the past five years. On these expeditions he has sampled a range of habitats including Cameroon’s Volcanic Crater Lakes and Gabon’s great rivers, the Ogooue, Ivindo, and Ngounie. Joe is a PhD candidate in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UC Santa Cruz, and President of the National Geographic – San Francisco Chapter. His work in Cameroon was funded by National Geographic and his work in Gabon has been supported by The Nature Conservancy.
Just back from 6-months of fieldwork in Gabon, Joe will share some stories of his adventures and lovely fish photographs with us this meeting.
