Brian's Bio:
Brian Zimmerman has been captivated by native North American freshwater fish since high school, when his grandmother presented him with a copy of Milton B. Trautman’s Fishes of Ohio. He received his bachelor’s degree at Heidelberg College, where he double-majored in Water Resources and Environmental Biology with Dr. Ken Baker before completing his MS in Aquatic Ecology under Dr. Jeff Minor at Bowling Green State University.
Brian worked at several jobs in the fisheries field, but was finally able to pursue his interest in surveying Ohio’s fish and updating their distribution when he began the Fishes of Ohio Inventory project through The Ohio State University in 2011, which led to the publication of the book, "A Naturalist’s Guide to the Fishes of Ohio" published in 2019. He has continued to work at The Ohio State University working on projects studying and reintroducing Ohio’s rare and endangered fish species to this day.
